Midnight Sun Wild Swedish Lingon Berries, stirred with sugar and distributed by Danica Foods, are grown and ripened under the Midnight Sun. Lingonberries grow wild and are handpicked under the midnight sun in the north of Sweden, where there is daylight 24 hours a day.
The long exposure of sunlight together with the clean mountain air and pure water give lingonberries a rich, natural delicious flavor. Produced by low, evergreen shrubs throughout Scandinavia's forests, the tart red lingonberries are much smaller and juicier than their distant cousin, the cranberry.
Bursting with natural preservatives and pectin, lingonberries were invaluable to earlier generations of Scandinavians, for they could be kept for months at room temperature simply by placing them in jars of water or by stirring the raw berries with a small amount of sugar to make rårörda lingon, an easy lingonberry jam with no cooking required.
The berries contain plentiful organic acids, vitamin C, provitamin A (as beta carotene), B vitamins (B1, B2, B3), and the elements potassium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus. In addition to these nutrients, they also contain phytochemicals that are thought to counteract urinary-tract infections, and the seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
Danica Foods' three factories deliver jam, marmalade and jelly in different assortments and packaging to suit both the retail and catering markets in Norway, Sweden and export markets such as USA, Japan and Finland.
Their factories are certified in accordance with BRC/ISO and offer both Private Label products and branded products, e.g. under the company's own brands "Lapplands", "Örnäs Herrgård" and "Midnight Sun". Danica Foods delivers exciting fruit based food products. Danica Foods produces and supplies a wide range of quality fruit based food products, e.g. jams, marmalades, jelly, juice, nectar, ice tea, drinks, dilutables and conserved and pickled vegetables.
Delicious on pancakes, waffles, ice-cream, pies, cakes and other desserts. Try them on toast or rolls, mixed with yogurt or cereals, and as a compliment to traditional meat, fowl and game dishes.
